Bout of Books 12.0: Goals & Daily Updates

Bout of Books

I'm stunned that this is my 9th time participating in the Bout of Books readathon. In past years, I participated and posted on my old blog, but books and teachers go hand-in-hand and that's why I will be posting my goals and progress for this week's BOB and future BOBs here on Teacher's Pet. The hosts of BOB decided to take away the goals link up, but I still would like to post my goals. In the last few BOBs, I've gone much lower pressure because for me, it is now important to just READ! If I read at all this week, I've been successful :)

Goals:
  • Read a little every day
  • Finish 1 book (that is my goal for 2015, one book a week!)
  • Participate in some challenges
Daily Updates:
Sunday 1/11:
Currently reading:
The 5th Wave (The Fifth Wave, #1)Sky on Fire (Monument 14, #2)
Pages read: 49 + 10 (total: 406)
Books finished: 1
Thoughts/Challenges: Starting on p.395 today for the final day of BOB 12.0. I have about 50 pages left in The 5th Wave, which hopefully means I will finish having met all my goals for the week! YAY! 4pm Finished The 5th Wave and will begin Sky on Fire. :) I've officially met all my goals!

Saturday 1/10:
Currently reading:
The 5th Wave (The Fifth Wave, #1)
Pages read: 97 (total: 347)
Books finished: 0
Thoughts/Challenges: Starting on p.298 today - 65% through. I've got nothing going on, so it's game on! :)

Friday 1/9:
Currently reading:
The 5th Wave (The Fifth Wave, #1)
Pages read: 69 (total: 250)
Books finished: 0
Thoughts/Challenges: P. 229 is the starting point today. I didn't read much last night because I was zonking out, but I read during the day and at the doctor's office. I'm currently about halfway through the book, hoping to get a little further today - maybe 75% through it.

Thursday 1/8:
Currently reading:
The 5th Wave (The Fifth Wave, #1)
Pages read: 82 (total: 181)
Books finished: 0
Thoughts/Challenges: The further I get into this book, the faster I read it. Starting on p.147 today.

Wednesday 1/7:
Currently reading:
The 5th Wave (The Fifth Wave, #1)
Pages read: 55 (total: 99)
Books finished: 0
Thoughts/Challenges: I'm seriously digging this book. I have it in hardcover and on my Kindle and switch between the two. I think on my Kindle I'm at 22%, so I've made a good dent in it :)

Tuesday 1/6:
Currently reading:
The 5th Wave (The Fifth Wave, #1)
Pages read: 26 (total: 44)
Books finished: 0
Thoughts/Challenges: Top Ten Recommendations hosted by Trees of Reverie

The Challenge: You’ve just started to work at a bookstore (or library) - what are your top ten go-to book recommendations?
Anna and the French KissCinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1)Pivot Point (Pivot Point, #1)All Our Yesterdays (All Our Yesterdays, #1)Pushing the Limits (Pushing the Limits, #1)Across the Universe (Across the Universe, #1)The Duff (Designated Ugly Fat Friend)Wicked Appetite (Lizzy & Diesel, #1)The Queen's Choice (Heirs of Chrior, #1)The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1)
Click the pictures to go to Goodreads page.
  1. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins [contemporary YA]
  2. Cinder by Marissa Meyer [sci-fi/fairytale retelling YA]
  3. Pivot Point by Kasie West [sci-fi/alternate universe YA]
  4. All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terrill [sci-fi/time travel YA]
  5. Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry [contemporary YA]
  6. Across the Universe by Beth Revis [sci-fi/space YA]
  7. The Designated Ugly Fat Friend by Kody Keplinger [contemporary YA]
  8. Wicked Appetite by Janet Evanovich [paranormal adult]
  9. The Queen's Choice by Cayla Kluver [high fantasy YA]
  10. The Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus series [mythology middle grade/YA]
So in my recommendations, I have a little contemporary, time travel, alternate universe, high fantasy, sci-fi, and mythology. I like a little of everything :) All of these books are ones I rated 5 stars, except The Lightning Thief that got 4 stars - however, I had to include it because I love Percy Jackson and even more so, I love Heroes of Olympus series that comes after it. These characters are incredible...so Rick Riordan gets 5 stars from me! These are books that I couldn't put down, books where I connected with the characters and got invested in their lives. They are also books that I think any reader would enjoy...you don't have to be a teenager to read Young Adult and you definitely don't have to be 12 to enjoy Percy Jackson :)

Monday 1/5:
Currently reading:
The 5th Wave (The Fifth Wave, #1)
Pages read: 18 (total: 18)
Books finished: 0
Thoughts/Challenges: Started on p.38 of the hardcover of The 5th Wave and ended on p.66.

I've done the exact same as you this year, gave myself lower goals so I can actually enjoy the read-a-thon! I usually get stressed and try to power read which leads to slumps - not good!
I hope you're enjoying The 5th Wave! Good luck! :)

Wow! This is my 4th Bout of Books, so I'm impressed that it's your 9th. It looks like you are making a good dent in The 5th Wave. I haven't read it yet myself, but I'm glad you are enjoying it.

Happy reading!
